Halloween

We had a very fun day yesterday. We met with our senior buddies before lunch and decorated our pumpkins. We had our Halloween party at the end of the day and then walked with our 4th grade buddies in the Halloween parade. There is a picture of the class in their Halloween costumes at the end of this post.

Applesauce ~ Pumpkin Math

We made applesauce this morning. It cooked all afternoon, so it was too hot to eat today. We will have it for a snack tomorrow morning.

We measured the height of our pumpkins in cubes and estimated the circumference using yarn. You can see the results in our classroom tomorrow.

Lockdown Drill ~ Build A City

We had a lockdown drill this morning. We started our discussion by reminding everyone that we practice fire drills, etc. This seemed to satisfy the general curiosity. We all did a great job.

We played "Build A City" this afternoon. Each player rolls a dice and builds a tower that many cubes tall. When each has built 8 towers, each player snaps his/her cubes together and compares. One player then spins a "most/least" spinner to see who wins...the one with the most or the one with the least.

Campfire Stories

We had a great afternoon with our 4th grade buddies. We drank hot chocolate, ate s'mores, listened to Mrs. Oeth's stories, and laughed at Mrs. Mullin's jokes.

Daily 5

We have been practicing The Daily 5. (The Daily 5 is a literacy framework that helps students develop the daily habits of reading and writing.) We are building our reading stamina first. We successfully read for 8 minutes today. Everyone quietly read to themselves, stayed on-task, and didn't bother a neighbor. We practice almost every day. Ask your KC student about it!

October Tree

We visited our tree today. It looked very different. The words we used to describe it were: red, yellow, brown, green, losing leaves, and bare branches.
